Naked Smoothie
Creating video assets in Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects.
In a second round of a job interview process, I had to create 4 social media assets for 2 clients of the company. This project will focus on the first set of assets I created and presented to the client.
The brief was for ‘Naked Smoothie’ and the task was that Naked Smoothie were launching a new flavour called ’Strawberry Zing’ and wanted to drive awareness and education to a Gen Z audience of the benefits of drinking their new flavour, which energises your mornings.
I had to show creativity at conception and at execution, with the freedom to be as creative as I wanted, so long as it kept in line with the brand guidelines that were provided to me. I could use animation, illustrations and/or stock imagery/footage to bring my ideas to life, so long as I communicated ‘wake up to the new strawberry zing’.
For this challenge I did my research on the brand and all their social media accounts, mainly Instagram as that was the platform I was designing for. From there I came up with concepts by storyboarding and after reading the brief and brand guidelines many times I decided that in order to capture the Gen Z audience the assets had to be fast paced/to the point, basic and yet have a slight tongue and cheek message to it and most importantly, present the product exactly for what it is.
I came up with the concept ‘stripped back to basics’ to indicate how the product was 3 main ingredients. I created each frame in Adobe Illustrator and to break each aspect down it’s key to note that the background was a subtle link to the morning, as it is a sunburst background that was recommended in the brand guide for ‘Zing’ related products, the fruit images were assets provided by the client. However, the text and stickers were all recreated from scratch by looking at posters previously created for the client. Once each key frame was complete in both 1080x1080 and 1080x1920 size, it was time to use Adobe Premiere Pro & After Effects to create a rip effect that would be the main link to my ‘stripped back to basics’ idea.
I wanted the animations to have an interactive/ 3D feel to them to gain immediate attention to stand out on the social platform Instagram, so I followed a YouTube tutorial to achieve the effect I wanted. I did the animation and then added the sound effects I wanted, by either getting royalty free or by recording my own voice (you can hear me at the end). This all took me about 3 days maximum to achieve with my days going from research, design and then completion, it sounds easier than it was, but I loved the challenge and I was proud to present my work to the client.
