David Bowie tribute
A tribute designed to display Bowies 'Ziggy Stardust' persona.
A self-directed project, that involved a summers worth of research into possible locations that would build a piece of typographic or visual response, reflective of the research on that space/place. My chosen location was Bromley, because of the interesting historic link to the late David Bowie.

Realising the local shopping centre had a tribute that I found to be a poor representation for the local legend, I set out to design a more fitting display of the iconic celebrity.

This project ended on a proposal for an annually changing installation that depicted the artists ever changing persona, starting with Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust’ days.
My first design (first image seen below) kept to 3 main colours of Bowie's ‘Ziggy Stardust’ persona. After further experimentation, I created an abstract Bowie design that incorporates not only the colours of the ‘Ziggy Stardust’ persona, but includes parts of Bowie’s actual costume designs/patterns and of course the iconic lightning bolt can be seen more vividly, unlike my last design that blended it in.

To construct the final prototype model I took a wood base and 4 sheets of evenly space out layers of see-through plastic. I then printed my design several times, cut up, divided and stuck it back into place on the different layers.

The layers disrupt and distort the image, and without facing straight forward you can't see the complete illustration. This need to walk around or potentially through the instillation resulted in an abstract and interactive tribute illusion of David Bowie

my first design, was created using layers of string attached to a 'c' shaped wood base.
Several print outs were cut up and layered, and once photographed using the infinity screen I was able to Photoshop the image to appear in the location that inspired the design.
