Communicating with the deaf
Exploring the future of communication through speculative design.
A speculative design brief that explored the future of communication.

For this Creative Conscience shortlisted project (2018/19) I explored the future of sign language and the communication between both the hearing and hard of hearing.

I worked with the engineer Joseph Keech, to build upon a currently existing pair of gloves that turn sign language into spoken word, so the hearing may understand the hard of hearing. The gap in this was the lack of technology that allows the user to communicate in sign language without the necessary education.
The gloves Joseph and myself designed pairs with the currently existing 'SignAloud' gloves, which were invented by Thomas Pryor and Navid Azodi from the university of Washington. I expanded on this idea by exploring possible promotion through a brand and its printed media that would advertise the gloves ability.

The designs are based on prototypes, which were informed by facts given to me by Joseph, who has designed the specifications for the gloves.
